Yes, the books, bicycles etc are already sub categories of the parent. The problem is that there is nowhere in the settings/options of the category or menu item to create specific no articles in this category messages.Have you considered using subcategories, Brendan? You could create a generic "empty category" message and then for specific categories like "books" or "bicycles" use subcategories with more targeted descriptions. Saves on managing tons of overrides.
